In many parts of the world, temperatures are rising even though the official start of summer is still a week away. Summer pregnancy presents some fun opportunities (swimming!) along with frustrating challenges (soooo hot!). Of course, you could just stay indoors all summer long, but that's not very reasonable. Changing what you wear, however, can help you keep comfortable while allowing you to participate in all kind of activities, inside and out.
Fabrics - The type of fabric you wear affects how hot or cold you feel, as well as how well much moisture remains on your body. Linen, though it gets wrinkly, is one of the best fabrics for hot summer weather. Learn about the performance of other fabrics in this previous post.
Loose and flowing - When clothes are loose (vs. clingy and tight) and flowing, they allow more air between the fabric and your skin thereby keeping you more cool.
Undershirts - Despite the above, an undershirt made from breathable wicking material can help pull the sweat away from your skin, keeping your more comfortable.
Colors - Light colors are always cooler than dark!
Bras - The thinner your bra, the cooler you'll be. Padded and lined bras add extra layers that will help keep you hot.
Lining - Rethink any outfits that are lined this summer. Those extra layers will... you guessed it... make you hot!
Hats - A hat -- ideally a lightweight, wide-brimmed straw hat -- will help keep the sun off your face and head.
Hair - Keeping long hair off your neck and thick hair thinned with a good summer cut will do wonders for keeping you cool!
Sun protection - Staying in the shade, using an umbrella, and wearing a lightweight scarf on your shoulders are all ways you can help keep the sun off of you, which will significantly cool you down.
