How to Access the Cochrane Library - A Benefit of Lamaze Membership
By: Sharon Muza | 0 Comments
There are many benefits to being a member of Lamaze International. You do not have to be a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. You may join Lamaze and receive the same benefits as people who hold the LCCE credentials. You can read all about the member benefits and join Lamaze International from here.
While I appreciate and utilize so many of the valuable benefits that are provided with my Lamaze membership, I really celebrate access to The Cochrane Library, a collection of databases containing independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. Check out this previous post on the history of the Cochrane Library, when the collaboration was turning 20 years old, in 2013.
As a Lamaze educator, I am committed to staying current and providing the families in my classes evidence based information and resources. I also rely on this repository for writing this blog and sharing information with all of you. I could not do any of those things without the access I receive through my Lamaze membership.
Individual membership to the Cochrane database is $365 dollars for a one year membership. Articles may be purchased individually for $42/article. You can see how much money you would save when you join Lamaze and access the Cochrane Library through their institutional membership.
In social media groups for Lamaze members, I frequently see people asking how to access the Cochrane Library. For security reasons, I cannot post how to do that here, but…I can provide information on how to find specific instructions on accessing the Cochrane Library.
Where to find access info for the Cochrane Library
-
Go to the Lamaze.org home page.
-
Click on “Login” in the upper right.
-
Enter your email and password. “Reset” support is available if you have forgotten one or both.
-
Once logged in, go to the member center link, found in the top menu all the way to the right.
-
From there, scroll down to “Research in the Cochrane Library” and follow that link.
-
This new page will provide detailed instructions on how to access all the information and articles in the Cochrane Library. Follow them carefully as they can be a bit confusing if you are skimming quickly.
-
If you need help, there is a link to a visual instructional guide on the access page.
-
You can also contact info@lamaze.org for additional support.
Bonus
Lamaze members also have access to a variety of free, quality online courses offered by the US Cochrane Center that can help you learn more about the world of medical research and information. This link is also shared on the web page where you find the access instructions.
Being a Lamaze member brings many benefits, including access to current research and publications in the Cochrane Library. As a current member, consider finding up to date relevant information you need now. If you are not a member, joining today will give you immediate access.
